TESTIMONIAL

Good Evening Doctor

May I take this opportunity to thank you for the operation that you performed on my left hand to straighten my little finger which had suffered a Dupuytren's contracture.

I have very good movement now and with the wound fully healed very little scar damage, a wonderful job.

I must congratulate you and all of the staff for the way I was treated throughout the whole process from our initial meeting right through the to after care.

I found everybody involved extremely pleasant, professional and very helpful especially on the day of the operation and it was very reassuring to have such lovely people to look after me.

With all of the bad press that is heaped upon our NHS I personally feel that it's quite the opposite

Once again thank you very much and if you get the chance thank as many of the staff as possible please

Mrs Mary Tulett is 64 years of age and lives with her husband Tony in Bexleyheath. Mary and Tony have a holiday home in Wales where they are able to enjoy their favourite hobby – fishing.

Mary has been in good health for most of her life until she noticed a change to her everyday movements whilst on a cruise:

“Our cabin was on the seventh floor of the cruise ship and we were on-and-off the ship a lot so that we could see the sights of the next country we were visiting. However, I started to realise that I was really struggling to use my arms.

“I  had severe pain in my shoulder. I couldn’t really lift my arm. Mr Gee explained that I’d been putting additional strain on my shoulder to take the weight off of my painful hip. Not only did my hip need replacing, I also needed surgery on my shoulder. This was really daunting but everyone involved in my care really helped to put my mind at rest. Mr Gee referred me to consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Karthik Karuppaiah.

“I had my initial consultation with Mr Karuppaiah at Queen Mary’s hospital in Sidcup and decided to have my operation at Orpington hospital. I’ve had surgery on my shoulder by Mr. Karuppaiah and I have recovered well. I’m feeling a lot stronger and in fact, I caught a 14lb carp on a recent fishing trip and sent the photo to Mr Karuppaiah.

“I really can’t fault anything. I’ve received wonderful treatment and am really impressed with the way everything has been so joined up – from making an appointment, through to my operation and after care.

“I was well looked after and felt like that I was in safe hands, which did made it a lot easier for me and my husband to bear.”

- Interview from Mrs. Tulett to Bexley CCG

‪I had a cycle accident almost exactly a year ago sustaining several injuries. One of them, a right ACJ dislocation, was reconstructed with an Acu-Sinch anchor by Karuppaiah exactly a year ago today. The anniversary of my stay in King’s has, however, triggered my finding your email and writing this.‬

‪‬‘Mr Karuppaiah is a magnificent doctor, from a patient’s point of view he is wonderful person and been a model of both manifest professionalism and truly humbling kindness. It was many months before I could tell people that without becoming tearful. It makes me well up writing this now.

‪All that said, Mr Karuppaiah was superlative. His care was simply wonderful. In common language we say “bedside manner”. His manner was brilliant from his first visit to my bedside to discuss my operation the next day, to talking to me before I went under general anaesthetic, to signing me off good as new months later.  He was the model of a doctor from a patient’s point of view. I felt truly cared for and utterly confident in his judgement. That confidence turned out to be entirely justified given the excellent result. The repair to my clavicle itself has left me with 100% mobility and indeed better function that I had before. The clicking of the internal bits of the joint is now almost non existent and certainly not noticeably different from the other shoulder. I am, after all 58 years old!‬

‪Please accept my heartfelt grateful thanks to you and all your team. I shall always be grateful.

Dear Doctor Karthik Karuppaiah,

Before saying that you are an extraordinary doctor, I want to tell you that you are an extraordinary human being. Thanks for showing so much care and concern. Real doctors spend the time to look beyond the medical reports and understand the suffering and pain that patients are going through. Thanks for being one.

Dear Dr. Karuppaiah,  I would like to take this opportunity to thank both you and your surgical team, the nurse and staff at Orpington Hospital for the care shown to me prior to, and after the operation to my right hand and elbow

The Treatment I received from both you, and all of your surgical team was of the highest standard and the explanations given to me by you and your anesthetist prior to my operation was reassuring and helpful.

The nursing staff at the hospital was excellent in caring and treatment.

Please pass on my gratitude to all concerned.
